Swimmer Profile: Missy Franklin

This blog starts a series of blogs on swimmings most marketable athletes. We begin with young Missy Franklin.

During the summer olympics of 2012, the name Missy Franklin became a household one. She took the world by storm. She was on the worlds biggest stage at age 17 and did not disapoint, becoming a sensation in the process. One of the most hyped swimmers to come along in years Franklin hit the ground running in her olympic debut winning a total of five medals, four of them being gold. She swept the backstroke events winning gold in the 100 meter and 200 meter women's backstroke events. She broke the world record in the 200 meter backstroke. Here's the highlights from that swim.

Adding to Missy's obvious remarkable swimming ability is her personality that makes her a very marketable athlete. During the olympics in London, the world fell in love with her for a reason. She has a very bubbly personality, was always a great t.v interview. The fact that she was so young and relatable to young people as well made her the perfect poster child for swimming. During the olympic broadcast they even frequently played on the fact that she had not yet recieved her drivers license! To market a sport correctly you need the names/faces to do so. Missy Franklin is at the top of that list at 18 years old and a lot of swimming ahead of her.
