Ryan Lochte Injured By Crazed Fan

One of swimmings more marketable athletes took a huge hit in the past week as American swimmer Ryan Lochte suffered a knee injury that will take him out of the water for some time. Lochte was rushed by an overzealous fan who jumped at Lochte attempting to fly into the arms of her favorite athlete for a big hug. Lochte, not being prepared for the hug, fell to the ground along with the fan and tore his MCL and sprained his ACL. Although people out of Lochte's camp, maintain that he is motivated towards a speedy, successful recovery; there is no doubt Lochte will miss a considerable amount of time in the water.

Lochte is often mocked by many (including myself) for his celebrity status, as well as his other business endeavors such as his failed E! reality show "What Would Ryan Lochte Do?". One thing that cannot be argued however, is that his injury is a big hit for the sport in the near future. He will be plenty fine by swimmings next premier event however for the near future swimming just lost arguably its most marketable athlete.  What a bizarre series of events, reminds me of crazed boy band or Justin Beiber fans, where will they stop.
